Do you recommend taking the insurance companies initial offer after a truck accident?
Answer:
We got a call from someone the other day who had been injured in a truck accident in Kansas. They had received a settlement offer from the insurance company and wanted to know if they should take that initial offer. You really should not take the initial offer that an insurance company makes.
First, the insurance company will oftentimes try to make an offer early on the case before you’ve even received all the treatment that you need or before you have an idea of the full extent of your damages. They do that because they just want to be able to finalize the claim on their end and move on when you’re not even done with treatment and may need a lot more treatment than you realized at the beginning.
Most of the time, the initial offer made by the insurance company is not the full amount or the top dollar that the insurance company is willing to pay for your claim. Most of the time there will be some back-and-forth negotiations that need to occur to get the insurance company to the top dollar, so I would not recommend taking the initial settlement offer from the insurance company and instead recommend that you hire an attorney right away to help you with that process.
